Ok let's be honest, what am I likely to die from due to this injury?

I know AD is on the list, but that's just a symptom caused by an issue.

What are the most common deaths for a T4 SCI male? Colon cancer? Kidney failure? Pressure sore? Bladder malfunction?

Even tho my doctor swears I am healthy as a buck, being in this chair sometimes makes me feel feeble. Before I thought I was immortal, I had no physical problems, strong and tough, so there was nothing I could think of, but now that life has changed, and I am doing things to my body that isn't 'normal', surely there's gotta be a leading cause?

Guess I just want a vague picture of my last days on earth in a hospital. Hope it's not cancer, I hear that hurts. Dialysis might be pretty bad too.

Dude, you're way too young to be thinking such thoughts. But the answer is probably heart disease.

Why are you thinking about this? You're probably a lot more likely
to die from something hereditary than sci related issues.

Barring any unforeseen accidents or illnesses? Apathy and old age. Use to be that a SCI with your mobility died of kidney failure, but I changed all that when I discovered antibiotics. Thank god bread didn't have preservatives in it back then.

Too young? I almost died a couple of years ago. I guess now that there's something 'wrong' with me, my mortality has become apparent. I think if I die, it'll have something to do with this injury, because everything else on/in me is fine.

Heart Disease? is this from blood pressure?

Heart Attacks is quick, but can be painful. I'm lookin to roll dice on some type of bodily failure, where I'm drugged heavily and not really knowing what's going on. I think that's a good one.

A couple of recent studies related to this:

    http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/abs.../neu.2008.0764

    http://www.futuremedicine.com/doi/ab...ournalCode=fnl

From the SCI Model Systems Centers National SCI Statistical Database, the leading causes of death in SCI currently are:

    • pneumonia
    • septicemia
    • pulmonary emboli
We also know that people with SCI are at higher risk for heart disease (probably due to the much higher rates of abnormal lipid metabolism in people with SCI) and diabetes, both of which must be properly managed and treated or they significantly lower your life expectance, SCI or AB.
