I am selling things made from recycled clothes and fabrics, tie dyed items that I did myself, I make little padded bags for glass pipes and little stash bags made out of old T shirts, and any other kind of cool fabrics. I would like to open up a store called Gimp's and widow's, to be filled will items, artwork, crafts made by people in their homes. The items would be on consignment, and the pay would be sent out every three months, or when the items are sold. gonna be braiding up some horse tack, reins and lead ropes to sell at the farmers markets in the area along with my other odds and ends.
I am just starting out, but it seems very possible to make a steady little income as long as I make it to the weekend markets to sell what I make during the week. I would love to get some advice on small business as well. I guess I would sum it up to cottage industry. we should have more of it.

Depends on what skills you have. Consultancy work is getting more and more common and can generally be done online from home. Key is a good education/skill level, be good at what you do and be reliable.

I work from home as a accountant an tax adviser and compliance issue etc. Apart from find it difficult when you need some one to rebound from its great

therefore if you don't mind i sugest that you develop a network of fellow person that share a similar enviroment

In Australia sometime the councils help arrange a monthly or weekly get together of of business of all different backgrounds

I hope this is of some help

I was listening to an interesting talk on the radio this morning and they had a look at the 'commonalities' amongst people who had lived to be 100. One of the key things they found was the time they spent socialising... as in face to face with other people.. throughout their lives. Thats at work, play, family, friend etc... everything. And it seemed that one of the keys to long life was spending 6hrs+ with people each and every day. Obviously a lot of other factors come into it, but it got me thinking about the working from home aspect. I have done it for short periods, but I live alone and quickly start to go a bit stir crazy. So even if its easier to work from home due to disability or ill-health, it may not be the answer long-term. Even if you do some work from home, finding those networks and spending time with real people is probably really important. Just thinking out loud really......

I don't mean this in any sort of challenging way, but am curious if you are a para why you are limiting yourself to working only at home?
