I noticed this on TV when I was last in Kansas. It's an online high school diploma program, not a GED. I swear I heard a commercial that said they were offering it for half-price: $10.00! Yep, ten whole dollars. All I can assume is that they get state funding per student. Cherryvale is a tiny little town w/ the usual KS issues of tweakers, pregnancy, dropouts. I reckon this is being offered in an attempt to get their graduation stats to look better. Might be worth checking out, or google online high school diploma for your region. Good luck!

My oldest son got sick of going to school and wasting more of the time on other stuff than in actual classes. He went to the community college and just took the test cold with no preparation. He did well enough at 15 that the local university wanted him to come to their school. He just finished his engineering degree at another university and had a job offer a year before graduating.

It can be done. See if you can take the test without attending all of the same old bull classes (unless you want to of course). I think all you have to do is to make the reservation and show up. It could give you an idea of what to work on if you don't do well and have to take it again. There are no penalty points for not passing, but there may be a waiting period to retake. Get a GED book from a bookstore and study it a bit.

    Hi Victor,
    Welcome to Care Cure Community.
One of my nephews is preparing for the GED. I don't know if there is financial aid, but you can study and prepare for the tests free. There are lots of places to take sample tests and get general information about how to prepare, study and take the tests. The test itself, shouldn't cost more than $100 which covers the cost of materials, scoring, and reporting costs. Here are some websites that gives some information about GED Classes Online

Prepare for the GED Tests Online

http://www.testprepreview.com - This site was created by a group of educators to provide free practice test questions for students.

Take online practice tests and learn GED-related skills."GEDpractice.com is a free service provided by Steck-Vaughn to familiarize you with the types of items you will see on the actual GED test.
    http://www.gedpractice.com

Practice GED skills in a structured online learning environment through GED Connection: At this website you can register for a free portfolio that contains GED practice tests and quizzes with automatic scoring and feedback, plus extensive learning modules for each of the 5 subject areas. I know this is a lot of information, but I hope it gets you off to a good start in pursuing your goal of getting your GED. You could do a Google search, possibly "California GED" "financial aid." There may be something out there to help with the cost to take the test. You might want to contact a local community college and ask to speak to a counselor, who might have some answers for you.

    All the best,

    Hi Victor,
One thing I forgot to mention. The officially recognized GED test is not available to be taken on line. The official GED test is only given at recognized test centers in your area. You must sit for the 7+ hour test in person.

By the way, if you have disability issues that limit your abilities to take the test, you can make application in advance of showing up for the test (keep all documentation and correspondence and take them with you when you go to take your test to prove you were granted disability allowances for taking the test) for disability allowances to take the test.

    All the best,
    GJ

Be VERY careful of "online high schools" as most of those diplomas arent even worth the paper they are printed on........I work for a college and we have to turn down many of these fly by night online diplomas because they simply are not regionally or nationally accredited. Be real leery of some of those accrediting agencies too.

Try your best to sit for the real GED test if at all possible.
