#2031 Today, 12:35 AM Wise, how long will the phase 3 trial be following patient one, two years or more? And if UMCB cell and lithium are looking effective, do you think you China SCI.net will try to start a phase 1-2 safety trial for a second generation treatment as you stated above, Before all data is analyzed and published for the phase 3 Trial. Does you know if acorda has a patent for rights on Chase?

The phase 3 trials will be following the patients for at least 2 years and perhaps longer. We anticipate the the phase III trial will have randomized all 240 subjects within a year of starting. We will go ahead with the next phase 1 and phase 2 trials as soon as that is done. Trials that we are considering include phase I/II trial to determine safety, feasibility, and possible efficacy in older patients (>64 years old), young patients (<18 years old), higher cervical patients (C1-C4), and lower lumbosacral spinal cord injury patients (T12-L1). Second generation therapies are still being considered. Possible cells for transplantation include neural stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and muse cells. Possible combination treatments include Cethrin and PTEN silencer. Much depends on the results of animal studies that are ongoing at the present at our and other laboratories. We will probably be holding one or more consensus conferences in 2014 and 2015 to decide on the next generation of therapies. Wise.

Wise which cells u will be testing on L1 p[atients and will u start phase 1 and 2 trial by next year?

Jawaid, as you know, we are still doing animal studies and I don't have the answer to your question. I don't know when we will be starting phase 1 and 2 trials. Our goal is to get the phase III trial for umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells and lithium started in 2014 around the world. We are considering a phase II UCBMC in lumbosacral spinal cord injury after we get the phase III trial, if animal studies support such trials. Wise.

Dr Wise. Do you know if any of the patients who have received the umbilical cord blood and lithium treatment spasticity change since undergoing the treatment?

Yes, some of the subjects had reduction in spasticity after the umbilical cord blood mononuclear cell transplants (there were two few that received lithium to be able to say for sure). However, it is impossible to know whether this was due to the walking or the cells or both. Wise.

We have not decided whether or not to do this trial and therefore don't know. Wise.

Wise will u take foreign patients in lumbosacral trial? Will cethrin and PTEN silencer be available to u in 2015 when u start trial?

I don't know yet about the lumbosacral trial. I hope that both the PTEN silencer and cethrin will be ready for trial in 2015. Wise.
