    pressure sore protection and healing

I've developed a small pressure sore above my ankle on my Achilles' tendon, about the size of a dime. I know the source of the pressure (part of my wheelchair) and have removed it. What would you recommend putting on the sore itself for protection and to help healing?
    Thank you

Lanolin. I really like this stuff, it's good for my skin.

I have used and am using Sulfadiazine cream, but it is on a open break down through the skin. You can only get from an RX and I do not think you need it.

You do not say it the area is open or how deep.

My first advise would be to keep the area clean. Keep the foot up, or spend most of the time in bed with the foot not having any pressure on it. You also want to keep from foot swelling .

No pressure and a padded 4x4 if you are up and it is open.

I would hope SCI-Nurse can give an idea of other meds.

Microcyn and Vetericyn, either liquid or gel, have a very good track record when it comes to healing pressure sores.

Since you know it was caused by pressure and have reomoved the pressure I would remove that pressure if not break in skin use a hydrocolloid dressing and increase fluids and protein and vitamin intake.

I've got the pressure off of it (damned wheelchair part).... it is open, rounded red area, missing layers of skin, but not visibly deep, no bleeding or discharge

I tried using Duoderm on a pressure sore I developed on my back/t12 vertebra. It stayed too moist and was healing very slowly. I started using a wet to dry dressing(gauze saturated with saline solution) twice a day and it healed up rather quickly.

    Hope you heal up soon!
