Thread chasers are used to restore damaged threads. I'd be willing to bet that your threads aren't damaged, they probably just have some shavings of the old bolt left in them; that is a common occurence with stainless fasteners.

You can actually make a chaser with a hard bolt by filing relief slots in it.

Great tip on the Mcmaster Carr bolts. I need the 2 1/2 inch bolts for the camber tube bracket on my TR. Carr didn't have bolts longer than 1 1/2 inches, any suggestions?

Do you know how the strength ratings work for choosing the strongest bolts? I am also trying to get my local hardware store to order some.

    Thanks

Here's another source and they're located all the country:

grade 8 would be the hardest but they can also be brittle. Selecting the proper fastener all depends on the loads applied to it.

Thanks for the tip. I checked that link and couldn't find the bolt used to Tilite chairs. It may have been right under my nose, maybe there were just so many bolts to look through, I didn't see it. I need to check in with my local hardware store and see if they finally got the bolts I ordered.
