Would you like some Toviaz, dear?

my insurance sucks when it comes to bladder meds. i needed to up my ditropan xl dosage from 20 to 40mgs. and my insurance said no way. i have to try topiaz (i think that's the name...there may be an r in there) and/or enablex and if they don't work, then they will pay for my highly coveted amount of ditropan xl.

so, my question is, does anyone take either? what were your experiences? do you suggest something (anything) in particular? i have to wait a month for full effect, then i can bump up to 8mgs if necessary. i'm really apprehensive about this whole leaking business since i've been having nothing but that throughout the whole year, and i just got it solved.

sci, you are the bane of my existence! but you guys, you are tops, man, tops!

    thanks!

Well my bladder is acting up right now but I take 15mg of enablex and i usually don't have leaking problems. I have a mitrofanoff and after I first got it I would leak out the stoma and below sometimes, once I started taking it the leaking cleared up. No weird side effects that I've experienced anyways.

thanks, suzq. do you have a uti right now that you are having issues with your bladder? i do intermittent cathing myself, but i'm not sure that would cause different results in the effectiveness of the medication.

I have been taking two toviaz a day for over a year now and all I can say is Toviaz rocks. I do not leak at night I can drink liquid almost like a normal person with out having to worry about having to cath every half hour. I have really good health insurance so the cost of the drug only cost me $65.00 every three months.

    Toviaz

I have been taking Toviaz for about 5 months now. It is working better than any other incontinence med I have taken in the past. My insurance will only cover 30 pills a month so I still leak a little but it is much much better. I take 8mg per day. I would like to take it in the evening also but insurance only covers 8mg a day.

I tried Toviaz 8mg 1/day. It worked about as well as Ditropan 5mg x 3/day. I'd like to try Toviaz 8mg 2/day but I couldn't find a doc that would prescribe that for me. So back to Ditropan, which sort of helps but not completely.

this is frustrating! i'm already leak free since upping the ditropan xl, and always was until about january when my body changed, and i just fixed it not even a month ago. if i have to resort to leaking sometimes, i'm seriously going to be pissed simply because i currently don't have to worry about that now.

I really like Toviaz, as its the only bladder medicine (in addition to Botox injections) that has helped with most of the bladder accidents I have. I tried Enablex, Ditropan, Imipramine, Detrol, and two other bladder meds and they all would work for a little bit, then stop.
I have also noticed that Toviaz doesn't give you as bad of dry mouth or dry skin like the others do.

As far as insurance, Medicare had to get a special perscription from my uro, stating that no other bladder medicine worked in order for to get it. I only take 1 pill a day and that's in the morning. Its the 8 mg kind. I had no idea that you could take it twice a day. I assumed it was once daily. Maybe I will ask my uro about taking it twice a day and see if it helps completely get rid of my accidents. It would be nice not to have to wear diapers at night.
