    LC1 Freedomryder versus FRH 1

    Hi guys,


    I was curious if anyone road both of these and can make a comment on which they liked better. It seems everyone is loving the FRH 1 and I don't see any comments about the LC 1.

    I know the LC 1 using a different technique to turn, you have to lean is this the main reason not a lot of people like it? Even the website seems to promote the FRH 1 much more than the LC 1 but it looks like the FRH 1 is a newer design maybe. I'm going to test ride the LC 1 this saturday because they have one actually to demo but sadly I'll have to wait a month if not longer to demo the FRH 1.


    I was curious how much wider the FRH 1 is compared to the LC 1. I'd prefer less wide so I have more options to ride.

    If you are talking rear wheel width, the FRH is 5 inches wider. I talked Mike into sending up a LC rear axle for the reasons you mention. He didn't want as he feels the narrow axle makes the bike tippy. Which it doesn't. Sure it will flip if a person gets crazy going down hill with a curve, but so far, not even a hint of tippyness. Also go for the better tires also. Conti 4000's

    I was curious if the tires make a difference, thats not a bad price either only 63 a piece.

    One other question, did you ever try kneeling hand cycles? it seems that would be a hell of a lot more comfortable and less chance of getting a pressure soare if your not on your ass the whole time

    I use to ride the freedom ryder leaners, I got tired of having to take such wide turns though and on the non lean steer you kinda more able to just relax and enjoy the ride more rather than focusing on balancing. I can tell you now the first time you ride that LC1 its gonna feel strange, theres a real learning curve to get use to riding those handcycles. Your gonna feel like a drunken sailor for the first hour or so.

    Ya, a kneeler with your function you would probably fly on, that would be a good race bike for you I'd think but probably not so good of a general cruiser as they don't look like the most comfortable things to ride being in that position. If you were real inclined to be very competative and race the kneeler might be a good idea eventually.

    Cory, one thing to note is Top end is increasing their prices ten percent July and right now till the end of June Scott at bike on is lowering the old price by 7 percent, so if you buy after the end of June its gonna effectively cost you 17 percent more. At a price of 3400 for the Force you could get one around 3200, thats a pretty good deal. I was thinking about it also, with your function you probably would not have that much trouble getting on and off the Force. You could train hard to race on it and you would do well. It can be a good general rider with the exception of getting on and off for a lot of guys, but that should not be a issue for you I wouldnt think. Plus the Force come assembled as I remember. Maybe you should really think about the Force before the end of June, after that the price is going to be nearly 3800 bucks. I had tried one out a long time ago and it is a nice bike, very fast.

    I'd be real hesitant with getting a kneeler. You know your body better than anyone though. Then again, most of us have been reading your posts for a while and know way more than we should

    For me, being incomplete, there is no way I could handle long rides in the kneeler. Or at least I don't think I could. Seems very painful and cramped. I could imagine major spasms after having my legs under me for very long.

    Kneeling is probably one of the most uncomfortable things I can do. Although, you have more return than I. Have you tried kneeling in your bed? How does your body react?

    Curt,

    The main thing that would drive me nuts about the force is the cable set up. I would hate having that thing in my face and I heard as you turn it flexes and causes the cables to break (some more than others.) Also the fact its very low to the ground worries me if I take this thing over bumps I wouldn't want the frame grinding off the ground. Another thing I heard was assembly, it isn't easy to take apart if I want to transfer it (true or false?) Are these legit things to worry about on the force? All of my concerns seem to be solved by the FRH1 and the FRH1 seems more customizable like the crank position. A bonus is like you said it is already put together other than the back wheels. I'm going to ask the people at BORP to see if they have a Force I can try out.

    after watching some more you tube videos of kneelers you guys are right, it looks actually you need basically full trunk to perform such a motion which I do not have. Kneeling also hurts like hell for me the only way I can do it would be to place foam inbetween my knee caps so they don't crush eachother (I've did this before at project walk to do exercises while kneeling and it didn't hurt) but I do remember I was super unbalanced so kneeler is out!

    corey, i agree w/ curt. your tiny ass will be a rocket on a force. i fucking love mine.

    little advice that 3400 wilkl end up being 4500-5500. mine out the door was roughly 5k. upgrade here and there adds up. just fyi
