    Memorial Day, 2010

Please take a moment to reflect and honor those that have died in defense of our freedom. Have a safe and solemn Memorial Day.

Rather hard not for me to remember the those who died in combat, and those who died with age following combat.
But this year is a mockery of those who died for this country and for our freedoms, so we can enjoy our freedoms they protected for us.

I echo Obieone's thoughts. Better neighbors could not be found. My thoughts go out to your brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers who have served so selflessly.

I watched the HBO movie 'Taking Chance' the other night. It is the true story of the marine escort who took the body of Chance Phelps home to his family after his death in the mid-east. I cried my way through several parts of it, but was awed by the respect shown the dead by the escorts, as well as the mortuary services at Dover AFB. The end of the film shows old footage of Chance as a young boy, doing typical youthful things such as water skiing, making faces for the camera, and, well, just being a child. He was only 20 when he died. It really brought home the sacrifice of the military and their families. Painful stuff.

My great grandfather served in the military, as did my step-father and husband. I have such great respect for the sacrifices willingly given by the men and women serving in the military, so many lives are lost when they are really just youngsters still. Peace be with all who have suffered and endured.
