    Happy Mother's Day!

    The origins of Mother's day:

The earliest Mother's Day celebrations was about the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's,in the ancient England, they used to celebrate a day called "Mothering Sunday". Celebrated oテつ*n the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter), "Mothering Sunday" was for honoring all the mothers of England.

During this time many of the England's poor worked as servants for the wealthy.due to this, most jobs were located far from their homes, the servants would live at their employers' houses. On Mothering Sunday the servants had the day off (were allowed to it),they could go back at their home, spend and celebrate the day with their mothers. They used to prepare a special cake,it was called the mothering cake,to provide a festive touch in the celebration.

When Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honor the "Mother Church",it was due to the consideration and understanding the celebration to: the spiritual power that gave them life and protected them from harm. Then years were passing and over time the church festival blended with the Mothering Sunday celebration and the tradition changed a little: people began honoring their mothers as well as the church.

Mother's Day in United States was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (she wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic) as a day dedicated to peace.During those years she organized Mother's Day meetings in Boston, Mass ever year.

Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day in 1907.Ana Jarvis' mother had died and trying to honour her mother and all mothers oテつ*n the 2nd Sunday of May,she persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day oテつ*n the second anniversary of her mother's death, the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.

In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year oテつ*n the 2nd Sunday of May,thanks to Ana Jarvis and all her supporters that wrote to ministers, businessman, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day,on 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state, but the great success was achieved when it was an official celebration/national holiday oテつ*n 1914.

Although Mother's day is celebrated many countries of the world, every Country celebrates it in different dates/months throughout the year there are countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother's Day oテつ*n the second Sunday of May.

In Mexico we celebrate Mothers day oテつ*n May 10th,most times it's a day off because it's an official holiday here too,a celebration in which moms are also honoured and we give them gifts, when mom's have passed away we go to the cemeteries and give them flowers and candles, also mass ceremonies at the churchs, for Mexicans it's also very common to honour in this day to our Lady of Guadalupe because into the religious sense she is the Mother of our nation and mother of all Mexican.
