World’s leading stem cell scientists to gather in Japan in June 2012

Newswise — The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) will hold its 10th annual meeting June 13-16, 2012, in Yokohama, Japan, at the PACIFICO Yokohama. The meeting is co-sponsored by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University. It will mark the 10th anniversary of the Society’s annual meeting, and its first in Asia.

“We have noted the importance of stem cell research since its early phase. Among the excellent outcomes brought out of the JST-funded projects in the field, Dr. Yamanaka’s achievement, the generation of iPS cells, is an outstanding example,” said Takayoshi Mamine, Ph.D., executive director of JST. “We are honored to become a co-sponsor of the ISSCR 10th Annual Meeting for 2012 in Japan, and expect that the meeting will be a significant event not only for research exchange between Japan and the rest of the world, but also for further promotion of stem cell research across the world.”
