Newswise - Your children or grandchildren could easily carry unwanted guests to your home --head lice. These tiny, wingless, yellow-gray parasites are spread easily, especially by school children, through close contact and by sharing personal items.

An outbreak can cause intense itching. Head lice won't lead to serious medical problems, but unless properly treated, they can be a recurring problem.

The September issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter offers tips for spotting and treating head lice.

    You funny Betheny

My Anas, very thick hair, used to bring those each month from public
school. We were tired to buy expencive shampoo-so my ex found some old babuska Russian recipe involviving kerosine & olive oil

We applied it once or twice for night-no lice anymore since

In Soviet Union, where I grew up-If lice were found in children all class were suspended quaranteed for weeks, school principals were reprimanded badly-but yet in Canada & US its norm(?)

I can ask about babushka recipe if you want it

Gak, we had this in our house a few years ago after a sleepover. The solution was these incredibly fine-toothed steel combs that pull the nasty little eggs off the hairs . . . I discovered this after spending a LOT of time and money on worthless shampoos from the drugstore.

Of Lice And Men: Parasite Genes Reveal Modern & Archaic Humans Made Contact
Oct. 4, 2004 - A University of Utah study showing how lice evolved with the people they infested reveals that a now-extinct species of early human came into direct contact with our species about 25,000 years ago and spread the parasites to our ancestors.

There was a story about this in the Science Times today. Interesting, if not a pleasant topic.
