    If she is a very good, long time caregiver/aide, I would garnish her weekly salary. I would also have her sign a promissory note. If she can't pay the debt off in one-year, all bets are off.

    Two years, but not too long ago I forgave an "advance" of $300.

    Then I gave her a raise.

    what was the scam? and she did not pay the last loan of much less than she is asking now, how is she going to pay a huge loan like that?

    I absolutely at a minimum would require a copy of a filed police report. I still would not loan the money. You have no proof at this time that the $$ is intended for what she says. Many good-hearted folks have invisible problems, Joe. I'd investigate further, and be prepared to start interviewing again in case anything is amiss.
