Able Flight is a nonprofit that provides flight training and career training scholarships for people with physical disabilities, including those with a spinal cord injury.

Able Flight Logo They have been providing scholarships since late 2006, and over half of their scholarships have gone to people with a spinal cord injury. A number of past scholarship winners with a SCI are now licensed pilots. You can find very detailed information on their program at www.ableflight.org

There is a very unique opportunity coming up in June where 2-4 scholarship winners will travel to Purdue University and live on campus in new adapted housing, while being trained for a pilot’s license by university instructors at the university’s own airport. All expenses are paid (except for meals) and that includes flight and ground training, travel and lodging, and testing fees.

This is a special project that Able Flight is offering for the first time this year. They still have space available for one or two successful applicants. With training set to begin in June, obviously any candidates would need to submit their applications right away. Applications can be downloaded at: http://www.ableflight.org/scholarships.html
