    Two different animals:

Acute comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation centers that specialize in SCI (such as Craig, Shepherd Center, Kessler, RIC, etc. etc.)

Post-acute intensive exercise programs (like Project Walk, SCI-Step, etc. etc. etc.)

The first is most appropriate for someone who is newly injuried or has never had any (quality) rehabilitation for a SCI. It would include education on health management, and the services of physiatrists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers, psychologists, voc rehab specialists, PTs, OTs, therapeutic recreation specialists, orthotists, prosthetists, urologists and other specialty physicians, etc. The services are comprehensive for all health care needs, and the best programs are either VA SCI Centers, SCI Model System Centers, or CARF accredited as a SCSC (or both). Most offer both inpatient intensive rehab and outpatient rehab programs, and are either hospital based or hospital affiliated. Most insurances cover at least a limited number of days or sessions with these types of programs.

The second emphasizes the exercise regimens for maximization of use of return, but most are not run by nor provide services from PTs, OTs, rehabilitation nurses, physiatrists, TR, nor physician specialty services, and are outpatient/day therapy programs which are free-standing and not associated with any hospital. Many insurances do not cover these programs.

Questions about rehabilitation programs should go in the Doctors and Clinics or New SCI forums for the best responses.
