    Reputation

Several people have written to me about the red-filled circle underneath their avatar on their posts, complaining that somebody had given them a bad reputation and that they don't deserve it, etc.

The circular button has nothing to do with reputation. We have not activated the "reputation" feature of the site. The round button below the avatar can be red, green, or gray. That button indicates your online status and does not indicate reputation. If you pass your cursor over that button, it will show a text message whether your are online or offline. By the way, the red color only appears if you have indicated in your profile preferences that you don't want your online status to be shown and you are looking at your own posts. Only you can see the red. To everybody else, the color of the button will be gray. If you indicate that you want to show that you are online, the button will be green if you are online.
