    bad bad computer bug

Yesterday my computer got ate by a very quick aggressive virus of some kind. It disabled my virus protection, and locked me out so that I could not get into safe mode to go back to an earlier state. It took 12 hours to wipe the drive once I got in. It is now at out of box condition. I am still trying to find all the windows updates which I apparently never was able to do the last time I had to wipe the Hd, because after that I was unable to play games.
Can anyone tell me what to do to update my machine enough to play games again? I am pretty sure the virus came from face book. How do I protect my computer from that again? I did not click on a thing and this bug worked very fast. my virus protection is up to date, but was the first thing the bug destroyed.

wow thanx for the links. I read the requirements befor buying the game. I am using Iolo anti virus, which I go with system mechanic. once I was able to get into my computer their was a fake windows ad saying click this to fix, I clicked the x to close, and these red sheilds poped up all over the screen. than and add to buy antidote, tried to close that and start a virus scan, but av was no longer usable. shut down and tried to get into safe mode, but not a thing happened. I forget how I finally go it to work, but tried to go to an earlier state that wasnt corrupt, but their wasnt one. so cleared it all.
I have reinstalled iolo AV. and had to update windows update and then install the windows updates. can I instal antispy ware in atition to my anti virus, if so which do you recomend, Thanx for replies by the way.

    Jody,
Instead of asking me your questions will you please ask Broni in your Reply to him. He's the malware specialist!

Also, you need to tell him what is wrong with your PC.
He'll walk you through step by step about any questions you have or something you may not understand. Answer his questions and do exactly what he says.
If you get stuck, just ask him!
Help him to help you, ok?

    To your question though:

STEP 3. Download GMER: http://www.gmer.net/files.php, by clicking on Download EXE button.
    Alternative downloads:
    - http://www.softpedia....ers/GMER.shtml

Double click on downloaded .exe file, select Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
When scan is completed, click Save button, and save the results as gmer.log
Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
Post the log to your next reply.
