please God, let them make a lot of money by people buy the stock. That's how the company will move fast to trials, also will encourage other companies if they smell money to involve in spinal cord injury cure.

Geron stem cell therapy shows benefit in rodents; shares up
    11.11.09, 10:46 AM EST

Nov 11 (Reuters) - Shares of Geron Corp shot up 8 percent Wednesday, as the company said its troubled stem cell therapy showed benefits in treating spine injuries in rodents' cervical region.

Geron ( GERN - news - people )'s experimental therapy, GRNOPC1 had earlier run into safety problems as rodents being treated for spinal cord injury in the thoracic region developed a kind of tumor in the animal studies, which prompted the U.S. health regulator to put an early-stage trial on hold.

Gerons cells are the most advanced cells available to possibly treat/ improve spinal cord injury damage. Eventually, the OPC1 cells will become the platform from which to combine other drugs, that will ultimately lead to the best possible prognosis for acutes as well as chronic classified injuries.

However, even the beginning of testing is far greater off than anyone believes at this point, here is why. Geron has stated that the initial testing will not commence in the United States until 2010, which actually means 2011. Now factor in that President Obama will not be re-elected ( due to the economic conditions he inherited, as well as his poor job performance).

No company is going to invest $100 Million Dollars in a phase III trial (in embryonic cells) with the uncertainty on who the next president will be. Once it becomes clear Obama is a 1 term President, Gerons Phase III trial will be shelved indefinitely. Until Geron figures they will be able to complete the entire trial, within a 4 year term of a pro embryonic cell administration.

If you don't belie politics play the major role in whether these cells eventually get approval to test within the United States, you haven't been paying attention.

The announcement today proves the investors don't believe the trials are going to move forward. The stock should have moved 30-40% on this news.

HA! That was good. You have no idea what the future holds for
their research, much less Obama's political future.

The stock should have moved 30-40% on this news
Their stock hasn't moved that much since they were given FDA
approval to start trials in January. Their stock actually fell after
    Obama lifted the funding ban.

Investors aren't interested in GRNOPC1, especially after the
cysts issue. The cancer vaccine is what the investors are
    keeping an eye on.

Good post, Chasb. You are quite right. It seems that some people on CareCure Forums are underestimating the consequence of this delay. It is sad.

When it comes to war....our politicians go whole hog....because the military industrail complex runs this country and wars are very profitable for them. And thanks to George Bush we now have the "Terrorism Industrial Complex" which has joined with the military industrial complex...to get their hands on taxpayer money. (Yes, George Bush, we should all be very, very afraid, shouldn't we?)

It would take only a small, small fraction of the money we are now spending on "war" with "terrorists" living in caves to fund all kinds of clinical trials.
