We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Everyone I know who has has it has been down and out for at least a week, and it is more respiratory then a stomach thing. May be that what has been going around your area is something different?

I think that is the tricky part about deciding to get the shot. Many many people seem to get H1N1 flu (not the shot), and just be a bit under the weather for a few days. So we get complacent about getting vaccinated. But there are enough people with serious complications to make it necessary in my mind.

Once again tonight, count me as agreeing with sjean. (I swear I'm not stalking her. Really.)

While H1N1 can cause vomiting and diarrhea, they have not been reported as common symptoms. As sjean said, this type of flu is primarily respiratory. Unless the folks you know, Bruce, are also suffering from respiratory symptoms, sore throat, fever, and body aches, it sounds like the three day bug going around in your area is probably something else.

Important new information released for those at risk ...
Swine Flu Packs Bigger Jolt for Asthmatics, Diabetics (Update1) Nov 11, 2009
Nov. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Swine flu sufferers who have asthma, diabetes or other conditions that may worsen their illness should seek medical care as soon as the infection is suspected, the World Health Organization said.
Pneumonia and other complications from the pandemic virus may develop within 24 hours, and any patient with difficulty breathing, who is drowsy or dehydrated, or who has had a fever for more than three days should be seen urgently by a doctor, according to the Geneva-based WHO. Severely ill patients should be given Roche Holding AG’s Tamiflu straight away and may need a double dose, WHO said yesterday in a 15-page report. ... more on Bloomberg

I am sick now. I posted earlier...my partner has H1N1. I'm on Tamiflu and hope I started it early enough that my symptoms will not get too bad. This is definitely a respiratory thing...fever and lots of chest congestion and coughing.

The coughing is painful. I have a thoracic SCI with several other bulging discs in that area. The coughing is causing muscle spasms, so I have that feeling of having an anaconda wrapped around my chest.

...hoping that everyone stays well and avoids this stuff. It's pretty brutal.

P.S. Don't let your kids do this...sorry, I couldn't resist...sometimes humor is all I have to get me through the day.

Darn it, Danine, I was really pulling for your partner to have an easy go of it and recover quickly, and for you to escape it altogether. I'm so sorry it got you, and that it's doing such a number on your breathing. That Anaconda feeling is truly brutal.

Promise me that you'll head to the ER in double time if you have any greater breathing difficulties -- with so many reports about how fast and furious this virus attacks, it's best to err on the side of caution.

I hope the Tamiflu does its job, and that both of you are feeling better real soon.

I am so sorry Danine. Here they tell you to eat Ibubrufen for the body pain, sleep and stay away from other people for seven days.

Thanks HC and WFE. I'm taking Tylenol for the fever and Mucinex for the congestion. I have a rescue inhaler to help with the breathing but haven't felt the need to use it yet. So far, I don't feel like I'm in any danger...just very uncomfortable. I've had a pneumonia vaccine, so I'm hoping that will give me some extra protection. My partner is still dealing with lots of chest congestion, but her fever is down. She's exhausted (as I am) and just sleeping a lot.

Haven't gotten either flu shot, because they haven't been available. Doc can't get them.
