My shoulders are killing me.. I got MRI

The shot in the left arm didn't work but the one in the right helped a lot. They hurt when I move them in certain directions but they will hurt all night long. I have always slept on my sides and it does smush them up a little

I went to a spine Dr to get an MRI but we changed it to the shoulders because of all the pain. He said it looks like I have severe arthritis. I go to a shoulder specialist tomorrow to see what he says about it. I dread it.
I guess grabbing my headboard to pull on or sit up and to many transfers. I'll let yall know what he says after I get back.

Glad you finally got a diagnosis, Mary, but I'm sorry that it's something as painful and persistent as severe arthritis. Hopefully the specialist you're seeing can get you some relief.

I feel for you -- my shoulders kill me, too. I also have osteoarthritis in both of them, plus central pain in the left, and my right one is permanently dislocated (fortunately, I have almost no feeling in my right arm from my SC damage, so the pain from the dislocation is usually kept to a dull roar). It sucks to have them hurt all the time while needing to rely on them for *everything*.

I know SCIfor55Years relates, too -- he's posted invaluable information about his search for relief of his shoulder pain.

Please let us know how your specialist visit goes. And good for your SCI doc for listening and being so responsive to your complaints of shoulder issues!

Our arms are everything to us. I'v had many surgeries that I mostly couldn't feel but I dread the thought of this one because it is the shoulders.
I'm ready for all the question for the Dr. I wonder if the have an in house rehab instead of coming straight home because I ain't going to a nursing home, no way, I don't care but no way.
Thanks all, about to leave so I will tune back in later.

Mary, I wasn't aware that there were any surgical remedies that would help severe arthritis. Do you know what specifically the surgeon is proposing to do?

That's precisely why my right shoulder remains dislocated. Having surgery to repair it would mean immobilizing it completely for six weeks, plus gawd knows how many weeks of rehab.

I cannot do anything without that arm, and since there's no way my hubby could manage my total care for that long at home (even with 24/7 help), recovery in a nursing home would be the only option. I truly believe that I wouldn't survive that experience, especially down here in the VI -- I end up with UTis, pneumonia, and pressure ulcers that would probably combine to do me in.

Well good news so far. I went to a shoulder specialist and he took xrays plus had the mri's and said I have some arthritis but my problem is bone spurs. He have me a shot at the top of my shoulder. He had to dig it around a bit so I'm kinda sore. I have to go to rehab for 8 weeks. He wanted me to go 3 times a week but I said 2. Heck, it's 25 miles to town. The shots kicked in so it's better for now.

hipcrip, I feel for ya. Dang, it got to where I couldn't transfer for 2 days and had to stay in bed because it hurt so bad I couldn't pick myself up to transfer. I don't know how you do it.

Thanks all for caring and take care of your shoulders.

    Hi Mary,
Glad you got to an MD who has the right expertise. I hope the shot continues to give you adequate relief for a good while. Did the doc say anything about removing the spurs? Be obsessive-compulsive with the exercises the PT recommends. My exercises are helping a great deal. I am now about 3 months post injection and my worst shoulder is feeling pretty good as long as it does not get cold. It is great to be able to sleep at night.
