    What About The Baby

Moms and Dads who use manual and/or power chairs, how do you transport your baby? Have you found a carrier that is WC compatable? If so, please let me know.

in my powerchair I just hold my baby on my knee. Now that she is a toddler she rides on my footplate. my 6 year old jumps on the back...

For infants, many of my clients find a number of baby slings or front baby carriers work, although you need to compensate for the weight as they get larger if you don't have good trunk balance. Here are some examples:

Once they are larger and able to support their head, then sitting on your lap facing forward (with a strap around them and you if needed) works well. Picking them up off the floor is easier if you dress them in baby overalls...the straps make good handles. Seriously consider a baby harness once they are toddlers. Better than having them run out into traffic and you can't stop them!

i use a manual chair.....and do a lot of "one arming it" luckily one of the girls learned to hold on to me tight and i have a low back rest on my chair and can lean back and hold the other one on my chest.....it's not pretty or fast or easy, but it works!

My friend uses a manual wc and she used a sling all the time when she is wheeling around. It worked great.
