    Dr Young,

A family member of a good friend of mine was in a car accident on 4/1/09 at age 50's. His injury was at 6/7 complete, but he was in a rural area and with strom and didn't get to a hospital until 5 and a half hours after the accident. He's still in ICU with a lot of complications: cord swelling up to C2, he's off a vent since 4/9, but has high CO2 level, deep vain thrombosis in his legs, (they put in a umbrella and I on coumadin or heprin) and he's over weight at 265 lbs, there may be other complication I'm not aware of). He has not had any return sensation or movement from C2 back down C6/7.

My question is: Is he still a candidate for methylprednisolone or has that window closed.

Your responds and any direction is most appreciated.

After a search I see methylprednisone must be administered within 8 hours.

If he was in the ER within 5.5 hours, he should have gotten it. Please ask his physician for documentation of this, or a reason why it was not done.

Is he in a specialty SCI Center or trauma unit? Where?
