Thread: Jerry, any news?

  1. #171
Oh man, I have tears in my eyes from hearing about this latest kick in Jerry's gut.

Jerry, my prayers are with you.

McDuff, I'm ready to send some $$ to help Jerry get whatever he needs -- just tell me how to do it without screwing Jerry's benefits.

Good grief...when it rains, it DOES pour!!!

    Poor Jerry!

Tell him I said this place is the same old same old, and he isn't missing a THING...(will he believe that?)

    GRRR lightning!!!

    Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Tell him to take care for sure!

    Prayers,

    Teena

Talked to him, he's hanging in there. Just missing contact with everyone. No real solutions to anything yet. Still waiting on his friend to do the contract, she's MIA at the moment.

One good thing, his tv isn't shot. A horse kicked out the connection from house to his shed(not sure if it was during the storm). He hopes to get a friend to get supplies to reconnect it.

fyi: we are going to my brothers ranch for the weekend, starting tomorrow morning. So I will not be online until sunday night or monday am. Just letting y'all know in case anybody asks something, and doesn't get an answer from me.

Hi all. I spoke to Jerry, and he's doing as best as he can. Right now, sitting outside enjoying a beautiful sunset. Like McDuff explained, things are pretty rough, esp. being so isolated out there.

There's no tv at the moment, because of possible cable problems, which he hopes to have taken care of tomorrow. But one thing leaving him pretty disconnected is not having his computer working. Besides not being able to communicate with others, and connect to the net for news, info, and generl entertainment, the computer allowed him to take care of much of his business and necessary items such as online bill payments. This is critical to ensuring his basic necessities are maintained and he doesn't suffer from power/electricity or phone being cut off. Getting this computer checked out to see what the problem is, would cost him, and after just paying out almost $70 to get it "fixed" just a while ago (it wasn't really fixed and they wanted to charge again to look at it again), it's not something he would be able to keep doing (the cost of repairs will quickly add up to a new puter!).

So, I was thinking how getting his computer fixed or getting a new (used/refurbished) computer or laptop would be relatively easy to do, and something those who are interested here, can arrange to get quickly so Jerry gets connected asap. Unlike some of the other things Jerry is waiting to be taken care of and have arranged, a computer is something people here can pitch in for. Jerry is an unassuming and honorable man, and would not ask this for himself nor is expecting anything. But so many here have generously offered their help, so I thought hey, I'll ask you all and see what we CAN do. I mentioned this to Jerry, and he is open to anything (as he is very appreciative already of all of your thoughts and support). He is aware of my posting this. So, if this is something you all are willing to do, I think we should be able to find something for under $300.

A portable laptop would be ideal, but with a working monitor, he may be ok with a tower. A quick search already resulted in a few possibilities, under 300..so what say you?! Can I have a show of hands? Just let me know. Thanks!

I'm willing to donate to a fund for Jerry to use for whatever he needs or wants most, as many here have already indicated. Just need to know where to send the money and the prefered method.

Thanks everyone so much! I've had some generous responses already, so I'm really hopeful Jerry will get this taken care of soon. He seemed very grim about things working out for him (in general). Thanks for helping to bring a bit of hope to his night.

I'll check with Cheesecake and McDuff about paypal, if already set up..if not, I'll see what can be done to ensure a reliable and secure means to get this rolling.

For those interested, send me pm, or post here and I'll follow-up a pm with further info and update you on process/process. Thanks again!

Chick, thanks for all your efforts. Neither McDuff or I have PayPal set up, folks have been dealing with McDuff directly and we have been acting as checks and balances. McDuff took care of stuff upfront on utilites and thus far, if he exceeds Jerry's costs, he will set up an overflow account.

McDuff is old school and doesn't use PayPal. I have used PayPal but not a clue how to receive incoming funds. Jerry is away for the long weekend, he and I can/will talk when he returns.

I am away today, will check in tonight. Sorry for not doing a private PM reply Chick, just wanted to get to you quickly.
Every day I wake up is a good one
