    cdurfee, this is a phase 1 trial and its purpose is to demonstrate safety of the cells. Therefore, they chose patients who had the least to lose if the transplanted cells became a tumor. I think that you would agree that such patients would be those with complete thoracic spinal cord injuries. Wise.
