Hello! My name is Melissa and I am 44 years of age. I moved my mother in with me about 4 years ago.
My mother is 65 now and she has Congestive heart failure, and her lungs are not in very good shape at all, for the past five months she has been on oxygen and can do very little with or without it, and smoking is an issue that I fight everyday!
I fix all her medication, order medication, take her to her dr appts, etc.
Here lately she is relying on me more and more!
She came to me the other day with some papers about her medicaid??
The name of it was Bravo?
I am really going to have to research this because she is apparently using this and does not know anything about it!
If anyone has any input on tips or sites that I can go to please let me know!
    Thank You!

So who has the spinal cord injury...you or your mother?

What state are you in? Medicaid is a state program that is partially federally funded. Eligibility is determined by each state within federal guidelines. What is covered also varies by state. In most, eligibility includes having no more than $2000 in assets (bank accounts, stocks, etc.) and a very low income.

Is she also on Medicare? If so, in most states, Medicare would be her primarily insurance and Medicaid her secondary. In some states, Medicaid pays the premiums for Medicare.

A social worker would be the best person to help you sort out your mother's finances and eligibilities for state or federal programs. Most states also have a Medicaid webpage where you can get more information, but we would need to know where you live to direct you. You might find some information here:

I am sure you know that smoking around oxygen equipment is VERY dangerous. An explosion in your home from this could destroy the entire home and threaten the lives of anyone nearby.
