Media Advisory - "Man in Motion" Rick Hansen returns to Toronto in support of Hope Ball fundraiser for Krembil Neuroscience Centre

TORONTO, Sept. 27 /CNW/ - "Man in Motion" Rick Hansen returns to Toronto
to deliver the keynote address at the Hope Ball, a sold-out gala fundraising
event to benefit research and clinical care at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre
of Toronto Western Hospital. Estimated to affect one in five Canadians,
neurological diseases are the leading cause of disability in Canada and the
third most common cause of death.
From 1985-1987, Rick Hansen wheeled 40,000 km around the world on the
"Man In Motion" World Tour, raising awareness of the potential of people with
disabilities. Today, Mr. Hansen is President and CEO of the Rick Hansen Man In
Motion Foundation and the Rick Hansen Institute, which raise money for spinal
cord injury, including research, awareness, and rehabilitation. In Canada,
there are approximately 37,000 Canadians with spinal cord injury.
The Hope Ball black tie event will take place at the Fairmont Royal York
Hotel on Saturday, September 28, 2002, with 500 guests in attendance.
Members of the media are invited to attend Mr. Hansen's keynote
address, which will begin promptly at 7:40 p.m. Preceding the address, from
6:45 - 7:20 p.m., there will be an opportunity for questions with Mr. Hansen
and with Dr. Michael Fehlings, neurosurgeon and medical director of the
    Krembil Neuroscience Centre.
The Krembil Neuroscience Centre is the largest neurological sciences
facility in Canada and one of the largest in North America. The centre
encompasses clinical activities, teaching, and research, including
investigations into molecular and cellular neurobiology to understand the
basis of neurological disorders, and research into new therapeutic
innovations. Through its close affiliations with the University of Toronto,
the neuroscience program is the largest centre in North America for the
training of residents in neurology and neurosurgery.
University Health Network is a major landmark in Canada's health care
system and a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto. Building on the
strengths and reputation of each of three remarkable hospitals, Toronto
