Gala and Live Auction to Benefit the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, Featuring Special Appearance by Academy Award(R) Winner Robin Williams

NEW YORK, Sep 4, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Golden Globe(R) and Emmy(R) award nominee, Kim Cattrall, star of HBO's Sex and the City, will host the 12th annual "A Magical Evening" gala on Wednesday, September 25th, 2002, at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. This year's event has been dubbed "A Magical Birthday Bash" to celebrate the 50th birthday of Christopher Reeve. September 25th will be a special day, as Michael Douglas, Catherine-Zeta Jones, Barbara Walters and Ron Meyer, who all share the same birth date, will celebrate with Reeve. All proceeds of the black-tie gala and live auction will benefit the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF). The evening will feature a special appearance by Academy Award(R) winning actor Robin Williams.

"The addition of Kim Cattrall as host of the gala is the icing on the cake to what promises to be a spectacular evening," said Christopher Reeve, Chairman of the Board of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. "Not only is Kim starring in the hottest show on television right now, but she is selfless in her support of CRPF and I value her friendship." Cattrall joins an illustrious list of former hosts of "A Magical Evening," including Helen Hunt, Denzel Washington, Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson, Meryl Streep and Paul Newman.

In addition to the live auction and birthday festivities, the 2002 recipient of the Christopher Reeve Research Medal for Spinal Cord Repair will be announced. Representatives of the Reeve-Irvine Research Center at the University of California Irvine College of Medicine award the medal annually at "A Magical Evening" to an individual who has made critical contributions to promoting repair of the damaged spinal cord and recovery of function.

Last year's "A Magical Evening -- Discover the Magic," hosted by Helen Hunt, raised over $3.6 million -- making it the most successful fundraising event in the history of both the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, and its predecessor, the American Paralysis Association.

The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) is committed to funding research that develops treatments and cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders. The Foundation also vigorously works to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities through its grants program, Paralysis Resource Center and advocacy efforts. Proceeds from "A Magical Birthday Bash" will assist CRPF in fulfilling its goals.

What a great idea to find celebrities that have the same birthday and ask them to come to Christopher's birthday party. Wise.

Stars come out for Christopher Reeve's charity birthday bash Sep 27 2002

Stars come out for Christopher Reeve's charity birthday bash Sep 27 2002

    The Western Mail

SUPERMAN Christopher Reeve was all smiles as celebrated his 50th birthday, with wife Dana Morosini at his side, at a star-studded party in aid of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.

But the occasion was bitter-sweet for Reeve. In 1995, after being paralysed in a riding accident, he vowed to be on his feet again for his 50th.

Although Reeve has made amazing progress, regaining some movement in his fingers and leg, he has been unable to reach his goal.

But he has kept himself busy since his injury, in a remake of the Hitchcock classic Rear Window and campaigning for spinal cord injury victims and writing two books, Still Me and Nothing Is Impossible.

The party was held jointly with stars, like Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, who share birthdays.

It was hosted by Sex And The City siren Kim Cattrall and included a special appearance by Robin Williams, star of Insomnia and Good Morning Vietnam.
