Missouri's stem cell battle stars at St. Louis Film Festival

Minutes before the world premiere of her movie, first-time filmmaker Sharon Pollack told the crowd at the Tivoli Theatre in University City that she had six human children "and I feel like this is my seventh baby."

That baby, a documentary called "The Stem Cell Divide," was born during the St. Louis International Film Festival earlier this month and was the product of four years of work by Pollack and her two co-directors, Jill Mogil and Barbara Shuman.

"The Stem Cell Divide" tells the story of the two-year battle over embryonic stem cell research in Missouri that culminated in an Election Day ballot initiative in 2006 to amend the state constitution.
