Nike Hockey, Bauer and hockey stars score a power-play goal for charities
-- Limited edition game-worn skates to be auctioned on eBay starting March 15 --
GREENLAND, NH, March 15 /PRNewswire/ - Now that the flame is extinguished, Nike Hockey, Bauer and stars from the Canadian and USA hockey teams will give fans the opportunity to win a gold medal for charity, while capturing a piece of history. Starting today and running for 10 days, select players' game-worn, autographed limited edition skates will be auctioned for charity on eBay ( ).

``This is an incredible opportunity to engage our brands and our athletes in a worthy charitable initiative,'' noted Gary Kiedaisch, president and chief executive officer for Bauer Nike Hockey, Inc. ``Bauer Nike Hockey is a big believer in giving back to the communities in which we live and our athletes are very active, philanthropically, so it makes perfect sense.''

In February, Nike Hockey and Bauer unveiled limited edition skates for players who competed in Salt Lake City. The Nike Quest and Bauer Supreme 7000 skates, which cannot be purchased at retail, displayed special colors for both Team USA and Team Canada and are customized with the player's name stitched in gold.

Athletes from Team Canada participating in the program include Mario Lemieux, Eric Lindros, Michael Peca, Chris Pronger, Cassie Campbell and Therese Brisson. Cammi Granato, A.J. Mleczko and Tara Mounsey are participating from Team USA.

``We may be the ones out there on the ice, but it's the support of the fans that helps us achieve our greatest triumphs, especially in Salt Lake City,'' said Mario Lemieux, Team Canada captain and Nike athlete. ``The skate auction on eBay is a great way to give fans a chance to take home a piece of history, while benefiting those less fortunate.''

In addition to the auction, Nike Hockey donated 66 pairs of autographed Mario Lemieux skates to various charities for use in fundraising efforts. Charities benefiting include The Easter Seals Society, NHL Goals and Dreams Foundation, NHL Diversity Task Force, Olympic Aid, Shoot for the Cure (spinal cord injury research and awareness), Caledon Community Services (Ontario), and Garth Brooks Top Shelf Teammates for Kids. The Lemieux skates have been very popular with Olympic Aid raising $10,000 (US) and the NHL Diversity Task Force raising nearly $5,000.

Nike also worked with Team USA goalies Sara DeCosta and Sarah Tueting in a unique collaboration to create one-of-a-kind hockey mask designs. Working with artist Janene Dunbar from Long Beach, California, the masks reveal personality, patriotism and determination of these female athletes. Only two copies of each design were created: each goalie will get to keep one and the other will be available for bidding on eBay. All proceeds from these masks will benefit the newly-formed Salt Lake City Girls Hockey Program. Nike became a founding member of the program when it donated $100,000 in cash and product.

Bauer Nike Hockey is the world's leading manufacturer of hockey equipment, fitness and recreational skates, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nike, Inc., the world's leading sports and fitness company.
