    NEED TO TALK

I AM A CAREGIVER TO MY FRIEND WHO HAS ALS. FEELING ALITTLE DEPRESSED AND ALONE AT TIMES. WHAT AN AWFUL DISEASE.

Caregiver to my son. 17 years old, 5 months post injury. Overwhelming at times. He's shown no recovery and is fighting with his bodily functions.

Welcome to you both. It is overwhelming! In the case of SCI, BeeBee, the body does settle down in time. I think the first months out of the hospital were worse in some ways than the time just after the accident--for me and for him.

Debbikay, I used to have a book written by a guy with ALS. It's not one of those false cheery things, but also not depressing at all. It's called Learning to Fall. link to a description I remember that it was very calming, if you're looking for something like that.
