    Hi Scoop--

Welcome to these forums, and sorry that you find yourself on them.

Is your daughter's injury recent? What's her condition right now? What exactly do you want to know? The people on this site have lived through almost anything you can imagine, and we're glad to help.

Here are a few questions that will help us direct you:

How long has she been injured?
What is her actual neurologic level?
    How was she injured?
Is she in ICU, med-surg, rehab, nursing home or home now?
Did she get care at a regional SCI Center?
    What is her current insurance?
    Is she in school?

Thanks for the reply. Just got back into this site. I am getting all that info together and will post ASAP. Quickly will say she is homebound student doing PT/OT 3x a week in Amarillo Texas. Injured Sept. 13, 2003.

Why is she homebound? Has she dropped out of school or already graduated? If not, she definately should be going to school, and the school district is remiss if they have not arranged both transportation (if needed) and accessible classrooms for her. Does she have an IEP?

    Thanks for respond. Nurse.
Jennie is a 17 year old homebound student and a very good student from Pampa High School in Texas. Jennie was a star athlete on both her high school volleyball (injured during volleyball) and softball teams. Defensive specialist in volleyball and starting catcher as a freshman (All-District 2002) for the Lady Harvesters softball, and again as a sophomore. Invited to Florida the day before her accident while she was attending the Perfect Game softball camp in Houston TX.(rated #1 catcher)(Sept.14,2003). Jennie at camp(sept14,2003) The reason she is homebound is that she has Doctor and therapy out of town,
(no SCI nuerological or SCI therapy is available here in Podunk), sometimes we are out of town 6 to 8 hours, four days a school week. Driving plus hours of therapy PT/OT that would sure add up to a lot of abscences don't you think! She is enrolled for 2004-05 in school for her Senior year.
It has been 8 months since her one car roll-over west of town here,(sept. 15, 2003). We are blessed that she is still with us.The whole community was devastated by her accident, she received many, many, prayers from all over. Local and area news followed her progress immediately after her wreck. Jennie has touched a lot of people by her personality since she was little and involed in local youth programs. She suffered a major SCI at T10, she was in intensive care for two weeks in Amarillo Texas then transfered air amb. to Our Childrens House at Baylor in Dallas Tx.(enrolled with Dallas ISD and received teaching while recovering there. We were there until Nov. 11th, 2003 then she was able to travel by car. She was confined to TLSO (turtle shell back) until Feb. 1, 2004. Since she has been fitted with KAFO leg braces which lock at knees. easy release. She will continue PT?OT for at least another 2 months, same places. Fortunately she is enrolled in Medicaid. I have disabilty due to years of chemical exposure when I worked in the oil-field service industry. That is another real long story that I have had for ten years now. Sorry for delay in post. Just not enough time, I have doctors I see regularly to control my FUNK. Adrenal insuffiency. Enough , I'll write more later because I have a lot to learn and speak about. Thanks. Nuerosurgeon : Dr. Wayne Paullus, Rehab : Dr. Frank MacDonald, Baylor OCH; Dr. K. Allen Ward, Southwest Nueroscience-Amarillo TX.[end]

It sounds like she is getting the therapy she needs. What other services are you looking for?

Got the message, Jennie will need assistance on any thing to lead a normal life. A car a job college all that. sorry not to get back sooner but jennie will have an exploratory surgery next week. Dr. Paullus thinks the hardware needs to be looked at because Jennie is experiencing a lot of pain and something is grinding in her back? more later gotta take girl to another doctor for females. Thanks
