Building will save 500+ dollars easily

Depending on how you shop even more.

Thanks DA, please keep us posted on the progress and cost.

Patonb I have never built one so it's gonna be a first time thing. But if the savings are that big then it's worth the time to put into it. Any pointers or websites you'd recommend to read up on.

I got my build suggestings from tech-forums.net. A $1000 budget will get you a very sweet setup, and a $2000 budget is EXTREME.

Mine was a first time thing too, and it took longer to format my drive,500Gig, than it did to build it. But there are more than enough how-tos around and it's pretty easy now adays.

Just get a proer power supply... bigger is't always better.

I've been building since the Pentium III was around. Although it's been quite awhile since I've built anything from scratch (I used laptops now), my most recent build has been a home theater computer. It's a computer in a case that looks like a piece of stereo equipment that sits next to my TV and is connected to my TV through component cables and hooks up to my stereo six channel direct in so I can control all the sound from the computer. There's no keyboard or mouse, it's all controlled from either my laptop or I can configure it so any remote will control it. I currently have a 300 GB, a 500 GB, and a 750 GB hard drive in it with roughly 150 movies, all in DVD quality and some in the original DVD format, and 4000 songs plus I use it as a backup to my documents for my laptop. All in all I have around $1200 invested in it, the most expensive part being the case at just over $200. I don't have any special video card in it because I don't play games but I could if I wanted to.
