Couldn't be a lack of communication between the 2 of us.
So I'm feeling about 2' high.
Why aren't you angry? You need to get angry. You have done nothing wrong, other people have and from what you've said here, you have no reason to feel small. Get angry, get assertive and correct these people. Don't let then get you down.

I know, easier said than done, but it still needs to be done. You need to speak up for yourself in this kind of situation. Both for yourself and for the next person that has to deal with these insensitive dolts.

Oh! And I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. Sounds like a PITA.

agree. Would you be so complacent if your child was treated this way?

Oh Mona, I am so sorry to read about your miserable day. Tiger is right, you have a right to be very angry at this treatment and expectation that you will bring someone with you as though you are some sort of minor or mentally compromised person who is incapable of making these decisions yourself. If I have any trigger it is being infantilized and treated with condescension, and this would have made my blood boil! I hope you have a much better day today!

You should not be embarassed, the doctor and his staff should be as they failed to treat you with the dignity you deserved and they demonstrated their ignorance.

Do you have a Center for Independent Living (CIL) which might have a list of physicians capable of dealing with a person with a disability.

I agree...get angry. Just because you are in a chair does not mean you are not an adult. You should be the one that determines whether or not you need someone to go with you. If it is too much trouble to put the tape back on for them, then they are just being lazy. If they told me I needed to bring someone with me, my response would be...why...do you bring someone with you everyplace you go? Unbelievable. Get mad and fight for yourself.

I agree. The nurse at my podiatrist actually asks if I need help putting my shoes back on, and at the gyn I actually need the help changing on the narrow exam table. And they are happy to help.

Go ahead and get angry! You have the right to. Write some letters, (and look for another doc!). And I hope that toe gets better fast.

Wow, thanks everyone! I was angry, very hurt.
I pride myself not to let someone else bring me down to their level.
But that cute little blonde nurse was behind the glass window giggling.
Letting me know her life was wonderful, better than mine.
I don't understand what they had against me?
    I was cordial & nice.
The only time I spoke up
was the 1st time she told me I needed someone to come and put the tape on my shoe.
    Without thinking I said, "No I don't!"
The receptionist was real nice and I could tell she was hurting watching that nurse act mean to me.

I didn't know everyone was charging to fill out papers.
Lynnifer paying an amount up front sounds like a good idea.
Not with him, but w/other Dr's that request pymt. Great idea!

I'm trying to get the nerve up to go back and get my results by myself.
I was even thinking about calling the police & seeing what my rights are.
If they say I can go by myself, I thought I'd have them waiting outside there to talk to them.
But that's alot of guts. lol
I'm praying and asking God what I should do.
Jesus stood up for what was right.
Over turning the tables where they were gambling in his father's house.
    I want to do right.
It just hurt so much them belittling me over & over.
Brought me back to the time I broke my neck.
I know y'all understand. That's why I could say it here.

Thanks RehabRhino, okay you got me there.
Staying off the floor was definately a good thing.lol

Thanks beachlover. I'm thinking on making a complaint!
Someone needs to stop them in their tracks!

Thanks SoFla yes it is hard to find good help.
The driver's (lady) brother was a c4 quad.
I knew him. I put an aide in the paper 17 yrs ago for a pca.
He saw it & called me up and we talked for hours.
He asked me to come to his house & see his remodeled place.
Such as ramps, remore controls for everything, etc.
He came & picked me up in his van with his pca's & his 9 y/o daughter.
I also had a 9 y/o daughter & they rode go carts there.
    I went twice in fact.
Unfortunately he died from infection of a pressure sore.
So the driver & I had a nice talk about her brother.
He also pulled out a bunch of things he wasn't using & gave them to me.

    Thanks Chelle you make sense.
I really don't know how they think they can tell me I have to have someone witrh me.
I want to know if I'm right so I'm going to call around.
    I don't see where they're coming from.
The driver was new & she didn't think to tell me she was lowering the lift.
I was expecting her to communicate with me.
No more, I'll say, "Are you ready?"
    They're arrogant and rude,
and I wouldn't put it pass the Doc to be hot on the cute little blonde nurse.
He sure sided with her quick.

Thanks HeathQuad. I went to a new Dr. today.
An ear, throat, and nose Doc and he was a complete opposite!
Dripping in kindness and treated me with the upmost respect.
He had me laughing and on top of the world.
I got my ears cleaned out. Maybe I can hear better now.
I think they want the money up front,
because they might not have any money on them or just won't pay.

Thanks knowthill, I agree I'm seeing it much better today calmed down.

Lynnifer I didn't get out of my chair.
I do bring my pca with me when I have to get out of my chair.
That's mainly because I want to make sure I'm back in right & don't get a pressure sore.
But they tell me they have people for transfers. No need for me to pay someone.
    But I still do.

Thanks Tiger Racing. You're right I do need to stop them from hurting others.
I'm going to call around and find out my rights and how to handle it.

Thanks Liz no way would anyone treat my child that way!
I need to stand up for me too. Point taken.

Thanks Eileen. I was in shock & I just froze.
I couldn't believe what they were doing. Like why?
But I'm building courage right now with y'all's help.

Thanks ancientgimp I agree they showed their bottom half!
I hope I get a chance to be validated.

Thanks wheeliecoach, I'd love to show them that sitting in a wheelchair
only means my legs don't work. But my brain is still functioning just fine.

Thanks sjean. I hope it does too. I'm pretty sure I need different antibiotics.
I'd love to roll in there to get my results with a policeman by my side.
I wonder if they'd even say anything. Ha!

Bottom line I feel 100% better knowing y'all understand.
Acknowledgeing that I deserve to be treated better.
    Thanks I appreciate your support.
I'll let you know what I find out & what I'm gonna do.

I got an idea! Post up the number to the office and we'll all take turns prank calling them. It'll be great!

I called the ADA American Disabilty Act & they said he can't tell me I have to have someone with me.
I'm going to make one more call Monday to Advocacy Inc.Texaslawhelp.org and if they say I can go by myself, then I'm going back by myself. They take calls Monday 8am-12:30 pm

    Thanks for all your support!

Paying for paper work, there is the analogy "this work is like taking a shit ... the job isn't finished till the paper work is complete". What is gong to be there next charge, a toilet paper fee? Don’t the Doctors charge an office visit fee?

    Let us know what happens.
