    Financially independent

    Hi there

Do you know any C5(complete or incomplete lesion) quad or higher, financially independent?

    What/how do they work?

I worked for many years and have several friends who are C5/6 who also worked and were financially independent. One is with a well known insurance company, I worked in medicine, anothe worked in a legal firm. It is quite possible, although getting through the door is the hardest part. When I first started out I made a deal with my perspective employer and said that I would be willing to do a three month trial period, and at the end of those three months if he thought he made a mistake in hiring me I would leave with no hard feelings. I worked at the same place for the next 31 years!

I was very fortunate to be able to go back to my job in marketing/PR after my accident.

My earnings dipped for a while as I readjusted but things are back on track.

It took almost three years before I felt I was contributing to the business in the same capacity as pre SCI. My employer is a friend, very blunt but mostly fair - although he still has no idea of what it's like to work 10 hour days as a C5/6 quad.

Many jobs where you can get paid to be a 'consultant'' of some kind should be suitable for quads but I can't truthfully say I know for sure that I would have been hired post injury.

I know of at least two C5 quads here who are lawyers.

That may be but his question doesn't ask specifically about Romania. You still have lawyers etc.

I do suspect attitudes to the disabled are different - your own attitude to yourself indicates that - but maybe Cypresss is planning to try.

Thx Eileen and Paul for your replays. It's very encouraging. That's what I need...true stories.

Adi, I don't have a problem as a romanian citizen, because we can improve accessibility. It's just a matter of time.
