Lightbulb Pseudomonas & Enterococcus in my bladder

The Dr had my urine checked before my bladder biopsy last week.
The nurse said they found pseudomonas and they wanted me to start taking Levaquin asap. So 2 days before the surgery I started it and finished the 7 days yesterday. I thought 7 pills was too little. But she said it was enough.
Now I get a call & she said I also have Enterococcus bacteria too. That's from the same specimen before my surgery. Now she says I need to take 7 more pills for it. I think it was amoxicillin.
Am I doing this right? 7 pills of 1 antibiotic then 7 pills of another kind?
The nurse said I had over hundreds of thousands of both. A Lot!
Will 7 pills kill it? I don't want to make it stonger. kwim?

Also I was sick taking the levaquin.

    Btw no malignancy!

    Thanks Mona

For people with SCI, it is strongly recommended that their true UTIs (or colonization that must be treated) be considered as a complex UTI, which means that oral meds should be given for 10-14 days, not 5-7 days as is done in ABs. Was this your urologist or your SCI physiatrist who decided about this method of treatment?

It is unlikely that you will successfully eradicate these bugs if you have an indwelling catheter, esp. with such short treatment regimens.

    Thanks KLD

It's my Sci urologist that did the biopsy.
I've already finished the 7 days of levaquin, 2 days ago for the pseudomonas.
I'm suppose to start the the 2nd antibiotic for the enterococcus today. Only 7 pills.
What should I say to them? Should I take 3-7 more of each one?
What about the 3 days lapse on the levaquin if I start back on them?

Was that who prescribed this medication regimen?

When you have completed all the meds, another culture should be done 5-7 days later to see if the meds were effective.

I finished the macrodantin (not amoxicillin) for the enterococcus on May 28th.
After 2 specimens submitted I find out today 2 wks later I still have enterococcus.
There wasn't anything said about pseudomonas in the uti report.
    Does that mean it's cured?
So I took 7 macrodantin pills, then off 2 wks, and now 7 more pills.
Is this method going to work?

    Thanks Mona

I would say that you need to be on the medication for 7-10 days straight. The fact that you have been off of it for 2 weeks means that you are basically treating a new infection, even though it is the same bug. I would "remind" your physician that the Guidelines from the PVA recommend treating a uti in individuals with sci for the longer regimine.

Thanks CKF where is the link to that guideline?
So I can let the nurse read it.

The Clinical Practice Guidelines are available from the PVA website, but are actually produced by the Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine. You can find links to all of them in the "sticky" topics at the top of this forum.

Thanks KLD I'll search them out.
I'm having urodynamics tomorrow with enterococcus & taking macrodantin.
Is that a good idea? I will only have 4 days of 7 days macrodantin after the urodynamics.
    Should I ask for more?
