Biography:
I started having pain from the tumor in 1982 (I was 27 yrs; 12 years before it was diagnosed. My symptoms progressed rapidly, but my Physicians could not figure it out, even when I told them I could not feel the burn on my legs or when I began stumbling when I was jogging and had to stop. I finally went to the Mayo Clinic and they told me my symptoms were all Neurological and I needed a Neurologist. I finally had an MRI. On both sides of my spine, where the sensation stopped T1, was where he ordered the MRI and there was a very fat tumor already popping out of the cord. I had it surgically removed in1994 at NYU by Neurosurgeon, Fred Epstein and again in 1999. It left me with a permanent, central pain syndrome, autonomic dysfunction, visceral hyperpathia, neurogenic bowel and bladder and spastic paraparesis. I was hit by a faulty door at a store in 2006 and thrown to the ground and fractured my right, hip, femur (2 places), knee, ribs, collarbone & sternum, foot in multiple places and lost movement and function in my right leg, right lung and lots of damaged/arthritic bones. I could walk, very haltingly, with a walker/cane before, but after that accident and 2 very long, painful surgeries. I have too many disabilities to travel (unless for medical) all I am doing is surviving and waiting for some relief of pain and movement, hopefully soon. I do a lot of home exercises daily and go to P.T. 2-3 times a year for a month at a time. I research alot and see several Physicians for some pain relief and staying alive.
I was hit by a door at a store, with a force, four times beyond what is allowed by law. I was severely injured, with, right sided, hip/femur/ribs, collar bone, sternum, knee, distal femur, ankle, metatarsals, big toe, little toe fractures (48 in total). That accident happened in 2006 and I have had 2 major surgeries on my right leg and it developed R.S.D. This accident has taken the wind out of my fragile sails. It has reduced my functional levels. My quality of life has been reduced as well. Now I have to try so hard, just to get through a P.T. session, walking with my crutches or walker, is very belabored and painful.
