I've healed several deep wounds sitting on high profile Roho. I have one now that will probably need flap in the fuure. Surgeon says flaps are a slippery slope as you weaken additional skin when you do a flap.To transfer,I slide to side of bed then grab opposite chair arm and lift my butt into seat. I then take legs from bed and place them on footrest. Gettin in bed,I place feet on bed then I put hand on bed and lift myself onto bed. I keep sheepskin on bed to help prevent shear.
  4. I learned with the board 21 years ago, so it would be hard to change. Besides, I am around 220, so I don't know how that would work..

Surgery is looking good. I don't know why, but he doesn't take the staples out until six weeks. The nurse is watching the staples.

    Have you had flap surgery?

Does your recent surgery seem to be holding up? I know another guy that had flap and went home in 3 days, Guess it depends on severity of wound etc. Can you transfer w/o the board? Hopefully stitches will be out soon.
  6. The hospital wanted to transfer me to a nursing home, but he let me choose.. Didn’t happen this time surgery on Friday, home on Tuesday. LOL Yes, I have home health, my nurses are great. They change the bandage everyday.

He didn’t want to disturb the original flap, but he had to. The wound started as a skin tear in my groin area, got infected, honey med applied and now we have a big wound. I don’t know what caused the tear, maybe I caught the Depend on the sliding board and pulled it. I don’t really know, not a pressure area at all. I wasn’t doing to bad until one of the wound nurses decided to try med-honey. That was a big mistake, never again.

I think insurance determines how long you stay in the hospital.i assume you have home health. Is your new flap in same place as your '03 flap? Do you have an idea what caused latest breakdown?
  8. When he did my flap 2003 he was flying high. He had a $2.5 million home and all the toys. He really was doing some flaps, pro-bono, at that time. He had so much pull with the hospital, that he kept me in the hospital for the whole six weeks. I heard he stopped doing wound closing later on.

Then divorce, restraining orders, a couple days in jail and he had to start all over. He is doing a lot of wound care now as he builds his practice back up. Nice man and very skilled. I don’t doubt he will be back on top in a couple of years.

Most plastic surgeons are making so much money doing breast implants and tummy tucks that they don't do flaps etc. They openly admit that flaps are too much work, and they can make more money doing cosmetic surgery. lol
  10. I am at home on a Hill-Rom low air loss mattress. I have had it for years and it has worked great. My surgeon likes six weeks off-load. He did a flap for me in 2003 that had excellent results. He is actually a plastic surgeon and the joke around the hospital is that if you have been to any of the strip clubs in Daytona Beach you have seen his handy work. LOL Most of the flap is sealed and the staples could probably be taken out. Due to my prior experience with him, I will tough out the six week total, He had to take part of the previous flap to use on the wound.. My butt looks like two football sewed together. LOL

I am paraplegic, no feeling from just below my belly button, down.

I 've had colostomy 30 yrs and it was a life change for the better. Are you still in hospital on Clinitron? Hope they let you sit up soon. How long will you be in hospital after your 6 weeks of down town? I'm a vocational rehab counselor and C/8 quad since '69.I know several guys who only spent 2 weeks on Clinitron, then started sitting up. Sounds like you're almost healed.
