(read this part AFTER the "hi gvinton post below!!)
he's 51 days post-surgery and he can walk unassisted--a little awkward, but he can do it. he can hold a 7 lb weight with his left hand and a 1 lb weight with his right. and he can empty his bladdler--his bowels need some help. so needless to say, he's recovered a lot of his deficit...but it hurts to know that he feels so much physical pain. he never complains about it...but it's there. Any insight is appreciated!!!

hi gvinton! i didn't realize you had responded as i am new to this site and was trying to figure out how to navigate. in fact, i thought i hadn't even messaged you!! i'm glad i was able to find you again.
my brother has home for about 3 weeks and has been going to Casa for outpatient therapy. What did you do when they cut out you off? and how were your feeling and progressing when they cut you off? if you were to see my brother today, you wouldn't know anything is wrong with him if he's standing there--other than the obvious that he has a scar on his neck and that he'll either have his right arm in a sling or he's holding it to prevent it from dropping. but he says that he feels pins and needles (neuropathy) all over his body every minute of the day...not to the point where it stops him from doing anything...but it definitely hurts..and there's pain more often than not. Did you experience that? is it reversible?
  4. I'm 10 years removed now so I don't really know any therapists or neurologists anymore. I did both my inpatient and outpatient therapy at Casa Colina. I think I was inpatient for about 6 weeks and maybe another 6 weeks outpatient.

I experienced similar issues early with my right side being the stronger one. If he is up and walking at 4 weeks that is great! I personally hit the gym as soon as I was able and supplemented my rehab that way. The insurance pretty much cut me off with the 12 weeks mentioned above.

Good luck and let me know if I can help!

    Dear Gvinton,
My brother suffered 2 shattered discs from c4 to c6 and cartilage jammed into c1 almost a month ago. Was admitted to the hospital with no movement or sensation in any of his extremities. In the last 4 weeks he has been working his butt off at Casa colin a and is able to walk a few laps a day, move his left arm, feed himself with his left hand--the can wiggle the fingers on his right hand but that is it. Clearly his right side suffered more trauma and is slow to recover. Casa wants to discharge him to outpatient care but he oesn't want to lose precious rehab hours. Do you know of SCI therapists who offer in-home sessions to supplement his out patient rehab? Also, we didn't love his neurologist--very negative with an awkward bedside manner. Any recommendations in the LA area? We live in Arcadia, but are open to just about anywhere. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Dear Gvinton
On 24.march 2012 my 26 years old sister suffered accident,C4 C5 and c6 broken, she was diagnosed as complete tetraplegy.
4 weeks without any movements except in the right hand,In the beginening of the 5th week she started voluntary movements on the both legs, also right hand is about 80 % of normal strength,The let arm is very weak and there are just some voluntary movements on the fingers. On the six week post injury she could stand on her legs few seconds, and yesterday she could make some about seven small steps (while being a little bit supported on the nurses shoulder). The urine cathether yestarday was removed since she is able to control miction. But today doctors said that her life will be on wheelchair since the right leg has score of 5 and the problem is on the left leg, with score on the knee 2 and 4 on the left feet. Please if you have any info if there will be any scoring improving after 7 weeks post injury. For how long you excperienced the majority of recovery

I guess you could say I am a walking quad also as I was only paralyzed for about 2 to 3 minutes after a terrible fall on ice. Couldn't move arms/hands or legs. Was talking on my cell phone when it happened, didn't do one thing to break my fall phone stayed right next to my ear. But since then I have undergone 4 surgeries each time getting better. My biggest problem is that the incomplete spinal cord injury seems to have affected my ability to have decent bowel movements. Very difficult to go. Has been better since my last 2 surgeries. I enjoy sharing and I am glad that you share too. We all learn way more than a visit to the doctor. Thanks for your sharing.
  8. It seems like we have a few things in common. Just wondering what recovery you have made? I am an incomplete c5/6 walking 3 years out with two kids! I have a dragging foot, spasticity and nerve pain and am not taking any drugs currently. Can walk but can't run - am still pretty weak. Any fitness tips?
