    Hi
I'm the same T12 L1. I was wondering if you got any gluts back. Or the back of the thighs back, or calf's. I was wondering if one can walk with out them, since that is were I am. I see that you are walking and curiosity is killing me. David

I didn't see you get well post. I appreciate it though. Honestly this syrgery is not a big deal as long as it does not get infected or anythig like that. I just have to work real hard to make myself not use my hand to pick things up. especially not using my thumb and first finger to grab things. I am hangig out at the house today but should be out and about tomorrow. I don't see a need to delete it. Thanks again.

Hi Jeapow. Thanks for the info on ballerina toes. They are actually rather graceful looking.

I had an L1 and L5 injury. One was repaired and the other had to be reconstructed. I'm walking with canes and am practicing with one cane. I can scoot around all day with two canes and get pretty much everywhere. It's a bit fatiguing, though. One cane is harder but I find the posture, straight up with weight distributed correctly, to be refreshing. I'm working on stamina with that. I can go only 1,000 feet a day with one cane and feel kinda unsteady. However, this is my goal.

Your injury seems rather recent. It's weird how a person recovers from something like this. I thought I'd be 'done' by now. Ha!

Very good to meet you and I appreciate your advice.

Hey, yea for the most part things are better here. I mean still no real help but my husband is really trying to be more understanding and do a few little things to help out. We had our granddaughter all night last night so trying to get caught up on some housework. Oh yea, I agree, it is so sad when sci or disease takes so one so young.
  9. glad to hear tht. Hang in there I know it is a day by day struggle

Hi Jeane, No however upon my doctor visit Monday, I asked him about the theracycle and he said that I can also look into an exercise bike. It's less expensive and just as effective. I will look into that.
  11. thank you--I am taking gabapentin 900 mg a day, I do not know what amitryptaline is, but I will look that up. I know I have alot of rehab to do, I am going to see when I can get water therapy, I am just anxious to get better. Again thank you. My next Dr's appt is in two weeks and I will ask more questions at that time last time I was so happy just get my turtle shell off and into a smaller brace I did not ask many questions!!

I am sorry to hear of your injury. You should see your doctor to see if you can get some medication for your neuropathic pain. Nearly 50% of people who have spinal cord injury develop neuropathic and most will respond to several available drug therapies. I recommend starting with amitryptaline (20 mg per day). This may reduce the intensity of the feelings. The next is gabapentin (400-4000 mg per day). Your body accommodates rapidly to the gabapentin but should the drug effect tends to plateau at about 4 grams a day. So, you should see your doctor. Wise.
