First question: What do you expect to achieve with the foundation?

I hope to achieve something like the Life Rolls On Foundation does.

So here's what LRO is about for those of us wondering:
LRO is the story of the able-bodied and disabled coming together to motivate each other with the inspirational message of achievement in the face of extreme adversity. A message which has been heard around the world, delivered by Ambassadors supporting these efforts.

Any fund raisers reading this thread that can give Kirkwood some advice?

Hey Kirkwood,
What would be the mission of the foundation? Are you interested in directing your attentions to quality of life enhancement issues? Cure progression/funding? Activities for SCI victims? Are you looking to employ anyone? Utilise volunteers? Or go solo? So many Q's :)
Rainman is spot on, but if the momentum is there then that will propel you and you'll get a lot of satisfaction from your endeavours too.

Like what? Can you put what you feel they have achieved into your own words? Do you plan on fully funding this foundation or will you be soliciting funding? If the latter, you need to be able to articulate your intentions and goals to potential donors.

kirkwood-
I recently posted on under the cure thread about fundraising. I have worked with many foundations and I am currently doing a strategic plan for an art foundation. Their is a wonderful book called "Securing Your Organization's Future". Its produced in corporation with the The Foundation Center-you go Google it. Its a wonderful source of information and can really help you in getting the basics. You can also Google Michael Seltzer, the "Godfather" of fundraising and foundation basics. He has tons of great material.
I don't mind helping you with a plan if you give me a little direction on what your goals are. I noticed that some people have posted great ideas but you need to first write a mission statement. A mission statement is the first thing you need to do to get focused on your goal and how you want to achieve it. Its also a great advertisement tool when you approach someone.
Let me know.

What I would like to do is have an organization or foundation to donate to that would benefit people with SCI's. I am blessed to have such good friends that want to have fundraisers for me and I would like to have maybe half the donations go to what ever foundation it is that I start.
Thanks for everyone's help!
