Louis Irvin Joins PVA as Associate Executive Director-Veterans Benefits

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is pleased to announce that Louis Irvin has joined the organization as associate executive director for veterans benefits. Irvin assumed his new duties on January 6, 2003.

Irvin will be responsible for leading both a headquarters and a field staff that constantly reviews the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) policies to ascertain that VA's health care facilities are correctly interpreting the regulations concerning patient care. He will also oversee more than 70 national service officers, who typically have offices within the VA's medical centers, allowing them to make first-hand observations of conditions and levels of care provided. The bottom line for PVA's veterans benefits department is ensuring that PVA's members receive the care that they have earned.

"I am honored to be selected to the position of AED of Veterans Benefits. I have worked the last nine years for PVA and my experiences have helped me prepare for the challenges ahead," Irvin said. "As a new PVA member 10 years ago, I learned first hand how important proper representation from an organization like PVA is. Veterans Benefits service directly assists PVA members with receiving proper medical care, compensation and ancillary benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Providing this service has an immense impact on improving quality of life for our membership. This is a great responsibility and I look forward to improving our services."

Since 1999, Irvin served as executive director of PVA's Cal-Diego Chapter in San Diego, CA. He also served as National Service Officer, beginning in 1994 and was appointed Cal-Diego's national director in 1998. He became a PVA member in 1994 following six years of service in the U.S. Navy, where he worked on missile systems. He is a native of Wilber, Neb.

The Paralyzed Veterans of America, a veterans service organization chartered by Congress, has for more than 55 years served the needs of its members, all of whom have catastrophic paralysis caused by spinal cord injury or disease. To learn more about PVA, visit its web site at http://www.pva.org.
