HELP FOR DISABLED ON THE NET

12:00 - 23 December 2002

A NEW one-stop website designed to benefit people with disabilities is being set up in Nottingham with a £10,000 grant.

The Government cash was handed over to kick-start Nottingham Dial.

The website will be part of the Dial UK network ? a series of internet sites offering disabled people daily help.

Among the information likely to be on the site will be useful phone numbers and contact addresses as well as meetings of clubs and groups.

The Department for Work and Pensions handed over the grant as part of £2m pledged to disabled groups nationwide.

The grants are designed to celebrate the European Year of Disabled People in 2003.

Nottingham Dial is among 90 organisations to receive grants of up to £50,000.

A steering group has been set up in Nottingham to launch the website ? www.dialuk.org.uk/nottinghamdial (http://www.dialuk.org.uk/nottinghamdial).
Maria Eagle, Minister for Disabled People, said: "It is set to be an exciting and ground-breaking year for disabled people across the East Midlands.

"Over 90 projects across the UK that will make a real difference to disabled people have been awarded grants."
