Wheelchair-Bound Teen Meets Favorite Rock Band
17-Year-Old Gets Backstage Pass At Mushroomhead Concert

POSTED: 2:44 p.m. EST December 22, 2002

CLEVELAND -- An ailing Cleveland teen had one of his dreams come true Friday night.

NewsChannel5's Angie Lau reported that Ryan Cek, 17, got to meet the members of his favorite rock band.

Ryan has muscular dystrophy, and his father, Ed, said that right now there is no cure. The teen is confined to a wheelchair.

Ryan is a huge fan of Mushroomhead, and his father takes him to the hometown group's shows whenever they're in town. Ryan hears the band fine, but he never gets to see them with crowds standing in his way.

But on Friday, Ryan got a backstage pass to see his musical heroes in person.

"He just found out yesterday," Ed Cek said. "He told his mother, 'I don't need another Christmas present. This one will work.'"

Skinny, Stitch and Bronson are the members of Mushroomhead, a heavy metal band from northeast Ohio that has toured around the world with Ozzy Osbourne.

"I was amazed, but I'm glad it happened," Ryan said.

"The whole show is dedicated to this guy right here," said Skinny, the drummer, speaking about Ryan.

Ryan said he's sure that he is the envy of all his friends this Christmas.
