Pensioner in electric wheelchair stopped on motorway
An 84-year-old German pensioner in an electric wheelchair was stopped by police on a busy motorway.
Police say the woman, who faces a fine, was lucky not to be killed as astonished drivers swerved to avoid her.
The wheelchair had a maximum speed of 15mph and was travelling in the slow lane of the A62 at Kaiserslautern.
A police spokesman told German daily Express: "She told us she wanted to get home quickly because she had a doctor's appointment later in the day and did not want to be late.
"She was very apologetic about the trouble she had caused and claimed she had not realised there was a 30mph minimum speed restriction.
"We had dozens of calls from motorists who had swerved to avoid her, she is lucky to still be alive."
