Boy's rape attacks on disabled girl

A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Townsville boy who raped a disabled girl on three separate occasions and twice forced her to perform oral sex was jailed for five years yesterday.
The youth, who cannot be named, was 14 when he committed the offences between November last year and February this year.
He also faced the Townsville District Court on seven property and vehicle offences.
In sentencing, Judge Clive Wall said the rapes were characterised by the "contemptuous and aggressive" behaviour against someone less able to resist, who was vulnerable and handicapped.
The victim suffers from cerebral palsy.
Judge Wall said a victim impact statement showed that the 16-year-old girl and her family had been traumatised by the events.
He added the youth showed "a complete disregard for the effects of his actions".
The court also heard a report on the juvenile rapist that concluded he "had an egocentric view of the world, fostered in part by drugs, alcohol and the pressure of peers".
Judge Wall said he had careful regard in sentencing a child, but he took into account the serious nature of the crimes and the fact they were committed while the youth was on bail or on a good behaviour bond for previous offences.
The youth was sentenced to four years in jail on each count of rape, all to be served concurrently, and 12 months accumulative for the property offences which involved $8000 in damage that had no prospect of compensation.
