MacSpeech, the leading supplier of speech recognition software for the Mac has canned its long-running iListen product and has launched a Mac version of the top selling Windows speech recognition product, Dragon NaturallySpeaking through a licensing agreement with Dragon's developer, Nuance Communications.

Good to know, but after my mother failed at learning to use both ViaVoice and iListen (with significant investment of both money and time), I think we will pass as long as she can still type with adaptive equipment.

I bought i-listen 8 on 12/30/07 online. they offered me a $29 crossgrade. I purchased and am waiting. I still need to fill out the crossgrade pdf form and send it in also. Has anyone else?

In my case iListen 1.7 was purchased from Amazon on December 8, 2007. I have registered (correctly) iListen, I have not received any confirmation e-mail from MacSpeech. I find this odd, but I do have an activation code for the crossgrade, along with the original serial numbers for the iListen software. It appears to me that I will have to pay $79 to do the crossgrade for MacSpeech Dictate, I think.

E-Mail From the Mac Speech Team
Thank you for writing. Please supply the name, e-mail address, and activation code you used when you registered version 1.8 iListen.

We will forward your information to the IT staff (who will keep a record of it). They will work to resolve your issue as quickly as we can possibly manage. Please understand that the response to MacSpeech Dictate has been far greater than we expected. So it may take some time for the IT staff to get to you and resolve your issue. Rest assured you will be able to register your copy of iListen and/or purchase a crossgrade to MacSpeech Dictate.

We are going to mark this ticket has resolved for the time being; but you may reopen the ticket at any time by supplying the requested information.

According to the MacSpeech website, I needed to install iListen 1.8 or fill out and download a new registration form in order to get the crossgrade discount. I installed iListen 1.8 and after five minutes of training the accuracy was close to 90%. I was dictating into Microsoft Word and its 30-day trial period. The next day I tried iListen again and started to dictate into Word, but the accuracy dropped to around 30%. The software would not allow me to dictate a reply using the Safari browser.
