I've been waiting for the Microsoft Sidewinder gaming mouse I won through eBay for a few weeks and got it today. I've been running a decent Logitech LX-7 cordless optical that seems to have either installed its own software or run off the Logitech software already installed for the corded optical mouse it replaced.

The new mouse's lit. said to go to www.microsoft.com/hardware/downloads (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/downloads) for the software - where I downloaded the software - which won't install. The installation checks system requirements and then says there is conflicting software that needs to be uninstalled. I OK that but as soon as the disinstallation is done the system reboots with the old mouse software installed and the new not. Same thing if I remove the Logitech mouse software through the Add/Remove pannel - system reboots with the old mouseware in. I have tried hooking the new Microsoft mouse up but it doesn't register or function and I've got to shut down, rehook the Logitech mouse and boot up.

I cannot find a way to get the Microsoft gaming mouse's software installed and it working.

Juke, have you tried going into device manager after uninstalling old software? Course if you do that you won't have mouse control until you reboot.

1. Uninstall old software

2. Remove existing mouse driver thru device manager.

3. Shut down.

4. Change mice.

5. Start up.

6. Computer should find new hardware and look for software.

7. Remember where you downloaded to.

I hope this helps

Your advice would undoubtedly help - is the damned mouse was any good. Neither of my PCs even recoginizes it as new hardware; it's a dead mouse.

Thanks Garlin, I'll see what I can do through the seller or Microsoft.
