so... I'm looking for something & I don't know if it exists. Anyone know of a gadget that can display a photo slideshow on a HDTV at a full 1080p res? I'm not looking for a full-bore media center pc, but rather something portable like this (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0609/06093004epsonp3000p5000.asp) w/ a HDMI or component video output. All I need it for is a somewhat eloquent presentation of photos on a big TV. I don't care if it has a hard disk inside or if it uses removable flash memory.
This is the closest thing (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665248017) I've found so far... but something more portable would be ideal.
Thanks :D

Stupid question, but I'm assuming you can't take your mac laptop with you right?

Stupid question, but I'm assuming you can't take your mac laptop with you right? well, I could, but it's an old (circa '02) powerbook G4 w/ a dead LCD (works w/ an extra monitor fine; yes, it's ghetto). my "real" mac (powermac G5) isn't portable. I'm just thinking something smaller & lighter... like an ipod... but w/ support for 1080p output.

interesting... haven't seen that. thanks. looks like it's primarily for video & I don't see specs on the photo output, but will dig around their site & forums a little more.

Like I have room to talk about ghetto...I've told you 'bout the falls mine's taken and how I have to have the power connector in just the "right" spot to charge/power it....LOL...and it's only 3yrs old next month....One reason I REALLY like what they did with the new magnetic connectors....AHHHH....I can dream about my next one, right? Nonetheless...yeah, your's would be tough to take portable w/the dead LCD...HMMM...well...off the top of my head I don't know of anything, but I'll keep an eye out and ask a couple techie people I know, see if they know of anything...

no problem, anytime :)
aren't they? I wish we could retrofit ours...that would SOOOOO ROCK! a new computer w/the magnetic connector is on my wish list....BUT a reliable vehicle(ie:Honda Element) is higher on the necesity list...details, minor details....

how about the archos line, tney are a ipod size dvr and video player

yeah, the Archos TV+ might do it, but again, is more video oriented.
I should just get a Mac Mini & a DVI-HDMI conversion cable. Front Row does what I need. Maybe this rumored subnotebook of theirs will have something cool too.
This isn't an immediate need, so I'll keep doing research on it.

hmm... this could be a potential winner for $199 providing I could find a way to get 1080p video output...

not really as portable as I initially asked, but dirt cheap, decent asthetics, & could fit in a bag if needed.
The 720p of the Apple Tv would not be enough?

not for what i'm potentially using this for, no.
