So I've been burning movies for some time now. I've actually burned near 1,000 or slightly more. I used my Dell laptop with an external burner for like 98% of them. That laptop quit uploading a few months ago so I bought a new Sony Vaio. I transferred all my files and software over. Using DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and Ripit4me for copyright protected movies.
Since using the new laptop, I was able to upload and burn only about 30 movies. All of a sudden my comp/software quit reading the movies. Here's my dilemna.. When I choose an already burned movie, Shrink will upload and Encode the movie just fine. When I try a new release, I get nothing except ''program not responding''. I try Ripit4me next and that program will only read 1 or 2 IFO's out of say 10-30 depending on the movie. Of course it works in conjunction with Shrink so this comes as no surprise. I also use PowerDVD to watch/check movies on my comp. Now since this has all started, I can only get the previously burned movies to play..
Now before someone says it's the copyright protection, I've done more than 400 copyright protected discs. I should be able to play the copyright ones too, but cannot. I have uninstalled and re-installed ALL three programs already numerous times too. I'm thinking it could be the DVD burner in my comp, but then how does the prev. burned movies work? I'm stumped.

It ight still be copywrited........
But from M$ or someone.
You do know that DVD Decrypter is no longer supported since 2005, right? DVD Shrink also uses DVD Decrypter to crack protection (built in), so it won’t work on a lot of newer movies. DVD Shrink is no longer supported either. The 2004 version is the last one. They may have done some bug fixes but that’s all.
Many new movies are using other kinds of protection that are part of the DVD structure. Shrink can’t recognize these, and Decrypter can’t crack them. You’ll just get error messages.
Some newer versions of other decryption software use dummy sectors or other means to defeat the latest protection. I use DVD Fab Decrypter (it’s free) and like it as much as I did DVD Decrypter. Shrink still works great (love it) after Fab has copied the DVD files. DVD FAB has full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray support. How’s that for free?

Is the Sony VAIO running Windows XP or Vista?

I will install DVD Fab and try it, just trying to find out why my usual ways aren't working.
PN, I have Vista on this comp.

What version of Windows Media Player do you have? If you have 11, try rolling it back to version 10. I think 11 prevents copyrighted media from being played....

What version of Windows Media Player do you have?I tried looking for it in Windows Media Player Properties but it doesn't specify... just says Windows Media Player. Looks like in your article that it's for XP..
Vista has DRM protection under the hood but it can be cracked.

It is under the help menu in Windows Media Player, it says "about windows media player." Click on that to find out what version you have.
I believe the same applies to windows vista...

Leo Laporte and Paul Thurrott both use and recommend SlySoft (http://www.slysoft.com/en/).WOW!! Actually hoping to find more freeware and forego the $228 they're charging.
I've got my Dell using Ripit4me and uploading a new release.. it's just sooo slow, but hopefully is disproving a software or protection problem.

I have a less complicated question regarding "burning"...
Is there a way to burn more data to a CD-R that is not full, but has already had data burned to it? That is, add more files or data...

Only if it has been burned as a session and not finalized. Your burning software should recognize this.
