View Full Version : Another escapee from my workshop...
Long story short, I had a bunch of extra parts, RaeRae's computer existed during the Paleozoic era, Christmas was coming...you know the rest. Add some more stuff, stir vigorously, and ta da...another one of my speedster computers:
All enclosed in a Lian Li A-05B with the fancy Lian Li DVD drive aluminum covers/doors...

Stepping inside one notices some Dynamat on the side panels and top to keep it nice and silent-like...

There be a bunch of parts in there <ohhh, ahhh>
BadAxe2 MB, E2180 overclocked to 3.0 GHz, 2GB memory running at 800DDR2 4-4-4-12, 7300LE graphics passive cooled (no need for mega 3D power here), Tuniq Tower cooler, a bunch of drives, some wires, and a couple more misc. cards, etc.

Nice little silent-type box with a good punch for general desktop computing I think :)

Nice Turkey neck.... er Tuniq Cooler, gt one on my machine..
Not much air flow though is there?
I dunno...the 5 120mm fans going might move some air. All the fans are at 7 volts, the Tuniq fan at 12 volts (replaced with a Yate Loon SL (http://www.petrastechshop.com/12yalod1cafa.html)like the rest of the fans except the PS fan were exchanged with), moves plenty of air very quietly.

Whoops, that's my computer. Aww heck, while I'm showin' off...:D

5 fans eh... Only seen 1. My antec 900 sure causes a windstorm, and the Turniq sits right at the exhuast. Once I get he wires cleaned up, I'll take some pics.
Nice overclock! 4Gig eh, sweet...How you cooling?
My quad is the B3 so i won't be able to really push it, but I haven't started overclocking yet. I've heard/read one guy hit 4G on a G0 q6600. They run 15deg cooler than the B3.
Only test i've run in 3dmark and that gave 12.2K

If this is an escapee, I'd like to see the prisoners. That's one nice thing about being a hardware nut, you can always throw together a box for someone in a pinch. Though my "escapees" have never been this calibur.
Ok really 4 for the case total, I threw in the Tuniq as a bonus :p . 2 intakes, 1 by the Tuniq, 1 over the expansion slots. The PS fan make 1 exhaust, behind the HDD's there is another one.
That 4.1 GHz isnt really stable, just Super Pi stable, Orthos crashes in short order. It can do some killer cpu-z screenshots at 4.3Ghz too! :D Max OC Orthos stable is 3.85 for my E6600, I keep it at 3.8Ghz as the max is kinda up there in the vcore curve along with the higher temps associated with that. The machine? <drumroll>

Keep note that the G0 series isnt really 15C cooler across the board, a little cooler, but not that cool. The 15C is from the TJunction spec being 100C vs. 85C in the Bx series, and the temp monitoring proggies not adjusting for this (they reference this spec in giving temps). Get the latest CoreTemp for more realistic #'s.
12.2 K in 3d06 is pretty good, what are the cpu/2.0/3.0 numbers breakdown with that machine?
Thanks for the kudos Zero & adi, we need some more computer geeks around here, eh? :p

HEHEHE bet you lose mice alot eh?
Re temp, supposively it is 15deg on the cores, but its only a factor when you go over 3.8ghz.
I only plan like 3.2 :D
CPU Was the downer at 3300ish... don't have the numbers b ut itwas 5200ish 3300ish 4200ish i think.

andy where did dou get that monitor mount?
i am trying to make something like it myself
It is an Ergotron LX desk mount, LX extension arm, appropriate OD aluminum pipe (use aluminum for standard pipe stock OD which fits the LX arm joint hole), a pipe flange attached to the floor in which the aluminum pipe is screwed into, and some 2" wide black tape. At the time Dell had a sale and was cheapest for the Ergotron stuff, the pipe stuff was from McMaster-Carr.

pipe stuff was from McMaster-Carr.
i have a swinging desk mount very similar, it also has a clamp to attach to a desk, the clamp piece comes off and the piece would fit into a pipe and work fine, cept i cannot find a pipe that it fit into, i went into home depot and asked at my local hardware store, it is a off size. i figured i will have to use 4 by 4 to mount it to and figure out the floor thing.
i want to use a weight or sandbag type thing on the floor to keep it from tipping.
are non bluetooth keyboard OK, the wireless ones but not blue tooth?
i am going to switch to an mac for video stuff eventually , i remember the last time i looked at the iMacs , when they changed form g to intel they lost the VESA compatible for the monitor mounting
Wireless keyboards/mice... Origionally I had some generic Dell (rebranded Logitech) wireless desktop and was going to run it across the room for my first version of a super duper computer involving a HDTV and a machine planted next to it. To my dismay I found that wireless meant wireless as long as it is a foot or so away on a desktop. I then got a Bluetooth desktop setup as I currently have that runs maybe from 1/2 a block away :p . I think they make 'extended range' 2.4 Ghz wireless desktops now as well which might be equivalent to Bluetooth desktops as far as range goes. At any rate, avoid the 27Mhz (HF band) wireless, they seem to be short-range, stick with the Bluetooth or 2.4Ghz stuff, might work out better for something like this.
Crunching video, eh? If I might give some advice...avoid MAC like the plague unless you like wasting money. Apple lost their mind with hardware pricing. Build yourself a machine with a quad core processor, OC it a little or a lot, and have a video machine that will run circles around a MAC for a fraction of the price.
, E2180 overclocked to 3.0 GHz,
I took a bit of time today to do some tuning on the overclock....a nice spiffy 3.2 GHz for the 'lil monster. Not bad for a $90 CPU :D .
Pretty neat stuff Andy, although way over my head. I have an old old Dell desktop back from the turn of the century, maybe I should send it to ya? :D
For all the talk about keeping your CPU cool its apparently still warm enough to provide a roost for 4-legged heatseekers, er I mean, the cat :p
